A lifetime of experience. A commitment to listening.
Teacher. Attorney. Mediator. Different chapters, with a common thread: understanding people and helping them move forward.
A path built on listening.
Selecting a mediator is an important first step, so I am pleased to tell you about myself. My educational and professional experiences have taken me along a path that ultimately led to mediation.
Music was my first career. After teaching music for several years and starting a family, I pursued a career in law. In 1997, I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
After serving as an assistant state’s attorney in Baltimore County and working in a family-law firm, I founded Margaret H. Oliver, LLC. For 25 years, my practice focused on separation and divorce, custody and visitation, and same-sex law, representing clients throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area and surrounding counties. I worked with families as a litigator, a Collaborative Law attorney, and a mediator.
I retired from the practice of law and now serve exclusively as a mediator. My training in mediation, settlement negotiations, and Collaborative Law, which includes mental health training, financial understanding, and child-related issues, helps me support families through change.
I listen, ask questions, and help people hear one another through the strong feelings that often come with conflict. Together, we look for resolutions that look toward the future, allow flexibility for change, and are acceptable to everyone.
